A security guard who was fired after falling asleep while working at an office building where there was going to be a demonstration a short time later has been awarded €7,000 in compensation.
The Workplace Relations Commission ruled that security firm, Synergy Security Solutions, unfairly dismissed the security guard, Ajibola Bamindele, as a result of the incident on December 17, 2021 when he fell asleep on duty.
Mr Bamindele told the WRC that he had an unblemished work record for the 16 years he worked as a security guard prior to two incidents in December 2021.
He said he faced a disciplinary hearing after an incident on December 1, 2021 when a door of a client premises was left open after he had urinated into a cup and thrown it out on a public road when he did not have time to go to a toilet.
